6 Most Important Style Lessons I Learned After A Decade of Blogging

My passion for fashion kept nudging me in a different direction, and that’s what ultimately led me to start blogging. Fast forward 10 years, and I’m still here, sharing everything I love about style, beauty, and life in general. Honestly, I can’t imagine my journey unfolding any other way. Along the way, I’ve learned so many valuable lessons, particularly in fashion, that have shaped how I approach my wardrobe and personal style. While I’m always excited about the latest trends, I thought it’d be fun to look back and reflect on some of the most important style lessons I’ve picked up after a decade of blogging. These insights have truly become my guiding principles and continue to inspire every look and wardrobe choice I make.

1. Know When to Splurge & When to Save

I’ve never been one to box myself into a rigid fashion budget, which is why my wardrobe is a mix of high-end splurges and budget-friendly finds. One day, I’m grabbing everyday essentials from Amazon, and the next, I’m treating myself to the designer bag I’ve dreamed about for years. The key is making smart, intentional decisions—knowing where to save and when to invest in a piece you’ll love for years. This balance has become such a core part of my fashion philosophy that “Splurge vs. Save” has turned into a regular series on Mia Mia Mine!

2. Do Your Research

When you finally decide to splurge on a high-ticket item, trust me – it pays to do your homework. Whether you’re eyeing a Chanel bag or those Gucci mules, big investments should never be rushed. Look into the material, care instructions, sizing, and durability to make sure you’re making a choice that’s not only stylish but practical for your lifestyle. A little research ensures that you’ll cherish your purchase for years and that it’ll remain a timeless piece in your wardrobe. If you’re not sure where to start, I have a section of the blog dedicated to product reviews HERE.

3. Statement Outerwear is a Game Changer

In my opinion, nothing elevates an outfit quite like statement outerwear. I love starting with wardrobe basics – like jeans and bodysuits – and then throwing on a bold coat to transform the look. As the weather cools, layering becomes essential, and outerwear is the easiest way to make an impact. Whether it’s a leather jacket, faux-fur coat, or a piece with a striking print, these additions can take even the simplest outfit to the next level.

4. Go Easy on the Accessories

I’m a big believer that if you have the right outfit, you only need a few accent pieces to take it to the next level. For me, that’s usually a pair of bold sunglasses, a high-impact watch, or a trendy handbag. These small touches inject personality and style into even the most basic outfit. Don’t be afraid to invest in a few standout pieces – they’ll elevate your look every time.

5. A Great-Fitting Pair of Jeans Can Make All the Difference

Few things in a wardrobe are as versatile as a well-fitting pair of jeans. Whether you’re dressing them up with heels and a blazer or keeping it casual with sneakers and a tee, finding the right pair of jeans will be a game changer. They’re a staple that can work for any occasion, and once you find the perfect fit, you’ll never want to let them go. Some of my current denim fixtures include the Agolde Dame Jeans, Riley Jeans and Pinch Waist.

6. Style Evolves – and That’s Okay

One of the best parts about fashion is that it evolves as you do. What you loved five years ago may not resonate with you now, and that’s perfectly fine. Embrace the changes in your style as a reflection of your growth and personal evolution. Trying new things and stepping outside your comfort zone is how you find what truly makes you feel like the best version of yourself. As I enter my mom era, I’m excited to explore new outfits that are infant and toddler-friendly but still reflects the same luxurious, edgy style I love. Fortunately, style is a journey, not a destination.
